Building children’s reading habits can help them to learn

Professor Andrew Hamilton, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, strongly believes that “Building children’s reading habits can help them to learn”. When he was two years old, his mother started reading with him and since then, he has always loved reading and learning so much. He recommends parents to start reading with their children when they are two years old or even younger, and to read to them three times a day – in the morning, evening and before going to bed. “Reading together can help strengthen the bond between the parent and child. It can also help to develop the child’s self-initiative to learn. When they grow up, they will enjoy themselves in the imaginative world of stories and find themselves not relying so much on television, playing with smartphones and TV games,” he said.
