Our Founders

Board of Directors

James Chen

Founder

James Chen (www.jameschen.vision) is a Hong Kong based philanthropist and co-founded Bring Me a Book Hong Kong with his wife Su in 2006 to promote family literacy and bring the joy of reading to the city. He is the Chairman of his family’s enterprise Wahum Group Holdings, and was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Bath to recognise his philanthropic work. James is a key proponent of the concept of ‘Moonshot philanthropy’, the uncompromising belief that philanthropic ventures must carry risk and has used this form of philanthropy to focus on two key areas, early childhood literacy and the world’s largest unmet disability: poor vision.

Su Hwei Lee

Founder

Born in Malaysia, and a graduate of University of Sydney in Economics, Su worked in finance from 1991 – 1999.  Since May 2000, Su has been a Non-Executive Director of Allied Group Limited, a HK listed company with investments in properties and financial services. Su served on the Board of Directors in Po Leung Kuk in 1997-1998.

Alison Chan

Board Chair

Born and raised in Hong Kong, Alison received her BBA from the University of Hong Kong and received her MBA from the Harvard Business School. She has over 20 years of experience in consulting, corporate finance and investment experience with GE Capital, JPMorgan Chase, GLG and various start-ups. Her biggest enjoyment comes from reading bedtime stories with her 2 daughters, Alexis and Amelia.

Jennifer Chen

Board Member

Jennifer Chen is the Chief Executive of The Chen Yet-Sen Family Foundation and Director of Philanthropic Engagement at Legacy Advisors, a thriving family office founded by James Chen. She sits on a number of Boards of NGOs and was Founder of the successful BridgeTheGapHK campaign bringing much needed funding to Covid disrupted NGOs. In 2009, Jennifer founded the Otto Wong Brain Tumour Centre at CUHK after the sudden passing of her husband from a ruptured brain tumour. The Centre focuses on research, patient care, surgical developments and treatments.

Jennifer is also a dedicated mother of three active boys. Encouraging them to learn, inquire and read has been the most rewarding journey. They keep her grounded, focused and very busy!

Amanda Wong

Board Member

Born in Hong Kong and raised in the UK, Amanda graduated with a MA degree from the University of Oxford and worked as a litigation lawyer for 10 years with Clifford Chance and Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP in London and Hong Kong.

Amanda now splits her time between managing her family business and her family circus, which features her three feisty daughters, Alexa, Amelia and Alison. Since becoming a mother, Amanda has been on a constant quest for interesting, relevant and fun books for her children, in both Chinese and English, and this is how she discovered the wealth of resources offered by BMAB.

Amanda is honoured to serve as a board member on BMAB and looks forward to bringing the joy of reading to all families in Hong Kong.

Rachel Ip

Board Member

Rachel Ip is an award-winning children’s author whose stories are often inspired by real world events and experiences. She has lived in Hong Kong for 14 years with her husband and two daughters. Rachel’s first picture book, The Last Garden, illustrated by Anneli Bray, was published by Hodder Children’s Books in 2020. The Forgettery, illustrated by Laura Hughes, was published by Farshore Books in 2021

Rachel chairs the Schools Program Committee at Bring Me a Book Hong Kong and is the Events Coordinator for the Society of Children’s Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) in Hong Kong.

Irene Chu

Board Member

Irene is a seasoned audit partner of KPMG China specializing in innovative and emerging growth businesses. She started her career with KPMG Toronto and has been working in HK for over 19 years. Irene has served clients in a wide range of sectors with a specific focus on healthcare, life sciences, technology, media and telecommunications and consumer markets, from pre-IPO, public offering to listed companies.

In addition to her role in audit, Irene also leads the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Reporting and Advisory practice in Hong Kong which advises companies on ESG reporting, climate change and decarbonisation strategy and social and economic impact assessment.

As a mother of 2 children, Irene passionately believes that reading aloud instills a love of learning and close family bond.

Michelle Bang

Board Member

Michelle received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Economics from Wellesley College. She is a strategic advisor, board director and entrepreneur with extensive private sector and non-profit experience in investment banking, strategy, fashion and children’s literacy. Michelle specializes in launching mission-driven ventures, and co-founded an award-winning upcycled fashion brand as CEO. She is active in the community and serves on the Board of Managers of Hong Kong International School, on the Harvard Business School Non-Profit Scholarship Committee, as a Founding Member and Impact Chair for Asia Technology Entrepreneurship Conference (ATEC), and as the Chair of Bring Me a Book Hong Kong’s Book Selection Committee. Michelle firmly believes that reading aloud instills a passion for learning and a strong family bond. Her children, Elliot and Amber, love their reading time with Mom and Dad, and are avid readers.

Executive Team

Pia Wong
Executive Director

Pia graduated from University College London and The University of Hong Kong with over twenty years of experience in marketing, strategic planning and communications. Pia joined Bring Me A Book Hong Kong in 2010 to help raise awareness and advocate for key social and literacy issues facing Hong Kong.

In 2012, Pia was awarded a scholarship to join Harvard Business School’s Executive Education Program on Non-Profit Management and in 2019, Pia published her first book “Good to Read.” Pia was recognized as a 2020 AmCham Women of Influence nominee as part of the NGO Women Leaders Taskforce.

The job Pia is proudest of is mother of two teenage boys who still talk about the cuddles and fun they shared reading together every night when they were younger.

Iris Lau
Assistant Program Manager

Iris earned an advanced diploma in Graphic Design and Multimedia, and a degree of BA in Language and Translation. Prior to joining Bring Me A Book Hong Kong, she worked in the Corporate Communications Department and the Treasure Trove of The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong where she was responsible for collecting and matching donations, namely funds, in-kind resources and learning opportunities from the community to support children and youth of deprived groups. As a bookworm, Iris has a strong passion for bringing the joy of reading to children by introducing the best books to them.

Yvonne Leung
Assistant Program Manager

Yvonne graduated with a BA in Asian Studies from the University of Western Australia. A keen musician since she was a child, Yvonne has been teaching piano for 8 years and loves to see the joy that music and books can bring to kids. Since joining BMABHK in 2018, Yvonne loves to use her creative and organization skills to support the team to spread the love of reading in HK.

Corey Chan
Senior Project Coordinator

Corey is a qualified accountant and graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the 90’s. After working more than a decade as a professional accountant, she became a full-time mother in 2008 to enjoy all the miracle moments with her young daughter.

It was on her quest to acquire more parenting knowledge that she came across Bring Me A Book Hong Kong. Corey joined their First Teacher Training and several other BMABHK workshops. In 2016, Corey joined BMABHK as a part-time accountant and in more recent years, Corey has become an active storyteller for community programs, reading carnivals and has also run workshops on behalf of BMABHK for the Hong Kong Public Library Festival. In 2021, she has taken up more roles in project coordination for BMABHK.

Cerise Ho
Program Administrator

Cerise graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Food and Nutritional Sciences. Despite enjoying her studies, she was far more excited to give back to the society. Her passion for children and reading ultimately drew her to Bring Me A Book Hong Kong in 2020. Finding the peace of mind in reading, she has dedicated herself to let children embrace the joy and happiness of reading. Outside of work, she enjoys yoga, cooking, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

Ling Cherng Pong
Board Chair

 

Ling holds a first class honors in Accounting. Upon graduation from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, she joined Deutsche Bank’s graduate training program and worked in its Global Markets division in London and Singapore before moving to Hong Kong in 2003. Ling joined Goldman Sachs in 2006 and is currently the Head of the Market Solutions Group in Asia Pacific. Ling has been a dedicated volunteer in non-profit activities, with a particular focus on providing professional skills training and career counselling to under-resourced students. As Board Chair of Bring Me A Book Hong Kong (BMABHK), she looks forward to continuing BMAB’s work as the leading advocate of family literacy and promoting a love for reading together among families in Hong Kong.

Yena Kim
Board Member

Yena Kim graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in History and a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Hong Kong. Her dynamic teaching career identified strengths and areas for further growth for each learner. She taught English and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) in the classroom with a collective seven years of experience in the IB Diploma Programme and the local curricula at St. Paul’s Co-educational College. She is a certified and registered teacher with a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from the University of Hong Kong, specifically focusing on teaching English language at secondary school level. She motivates children to engage in reading and participate in discussions with the lens of positive education.

Outside the classroom, Yena empowered students to become independent and analytical thinkers by actively coaching the local and international debating community for nearly a decade.

As a mother of two children, Yena instils the love of reading and books in daily routines such as reading a small chapter at breakfast and having book chats at home.

Dr. Fanny Wai Fan Lam
Board Member

Dr. Fanny Wai Fan Lam is a Specialist in Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrics with three decades of clinical experience in Hong Kong, Canada, and Australia.

Currently, Dr. Lam serves as the Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrician in Hong Kong Developmental Paediatrics Centre, Matilda International Hospital, Union Hospital and Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital. Dr. Lam is also actively involved in public and professional education, as well as expert witness services in paediatrics litigations and medical council inquiries. She is committed to enabling children to develop their best potentials through parenting coaching and early identification and intervention of children developmental needs.

Daisy Lau Wing Sze
Board Member

Daisy Lau Wing Sze has over 20 years of experience in early childhood and parent education. As a qualified American Montessori Society (AMS) teacher trainer, she has trained over a thousand teachers across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Australia and Canada. She has been a certified Parent Mentor in Canada and has served as a lecturer for the Montessori Parent Education Program at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, School of Continuing and Professional Studies over a decade.

As the founder of Infinity Children’s World, a Montessori school in Hong Kong, Daisy embodies the mission to contribute in early childhood development. She also serves as advisor to Montessori schools and organisations where she oversees teacher training and practicum supervision. Over the years, Daisy has been a regular contributor to educational articles and has been invited to speak at seminars at Universities and Education Departments in both Hong Kong and Mainland China.

 

Amanda Wong
Board Member

Jeannie Leung
Executive Director

Jeannie brings combined experience from the legal and education sectors to Bring Me A Book Hong Kong (BMABHK). A former corporate lawyer and a Montessori Early Years English teacher, Jeannie has taught adults in professional training as well as kindergarten and primary-age children in schools across Hong Kong.

As Executive Director, Jeannie is committed to leading education programmes to help reshape Hong Kong’s reading culture. Jeannie developed a love for reading when she first moved to the UK at the age of 6. Her continual passion for education and children’s development inspired her to join BMABHK.  Jeannie draws on her classroom experience as well as her previous Montessori parent consultancy practice on children’s early years.

A graduate of the London School of Economics and The University of Hong Kong, Jeannie is a qualified Hong Kong solicitor and American Montessori Society (AMS) Teacher for ages 0-3 and 3-6. She is certified in CertTESOL and the UK TPhYL (Teaching Phonics to Young Learners).

Rene Chan
Programme Manager

Rene graduated from The Hong Kong Metropolitan University with a Bachelor Degree (Hons) major in English Language Studies. She joined Bring Me A Book Hong Kong as the Program Manager since 2023.

As a book lover and a mother, Rene started reading with her son since an early age. She has experienced firsthand the benefits of parent-and-child reading and the profound impact reading aloud has on children’s development in different aspects. In Rene’s work, she has noticed that many parents struggle in reading with their children and supporting their kids to develop a reading habit. Rene is glad to have found a wonderful and meaningful job at BMAB in bringing the joy of reading to all families in Hong Kong.

Felicia Fung
Team

Felicia Fung has 20 years of sales and management experience coupled with a deep passion in child development and parent-child relationship. Since becoming a mother, she is passionate about children’s developmental psychology and early childhood development.

Through extensive reading and completing the Montessori Parent Education Program, Felicia has gained valuable insights in children’s developmental needs at different ages. With her professional background in relationship management, Felicia looks forward to working with families to foster a love of reading and create a lasting bond between parents and children.

Whitney Leung
Accountant

Whitney Leung graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a Bachelor Degree (Hons) In Accountancy. She has over 10 years of experience in the accounting field. Whitney is the sole Team Coach for the Youth Hong Kong Wakesurf Team and is one of the coaches of an exempted charity organization specialised in trail running. Whitney has completed the 100km Oxfam Trailwalker several times and ran the 252km Marathon Des Sables in the Sahara Desert. Whitney is experienced in coaching youth and enjoys sharing her passion and interests with them.

Percie Wong

Percie Wong holds a bachelor degree major in Psychology where she has extensive experience in conducting First Teachers TM Training to parents and Train-the-Trainer Workshop to teachers and social workers.  Due to her passion to contribute the work on child development that led her joining BMABHK from hotel business management sector.  She holds various trainings/reading clubs regularly for schools or NGOs to nurture family reading cultures.  Her expertise also includes English workshops through interactive read-aloud with the systematic approach to develop children’s understanding of vocabulary as well as the phonological awareness in boosting their oral English.

Yoyo Yau

Yoyo is a Registered Social Worker (HK), a Registered Play Therapist (USA) and a columnist in Mameshare website, she holds a Master Degree in Counseling from the University of Hong Kong. With over ten years of experience in social work and counseling, she is experienced in organizing and conducting different projects in schools and communities to promote the importance of parent-child reading since she has joined Bring Me A Book in 2011. After the birth of her two daughters, she experienced the benefits of parent-child reading, and she would love to help parents to establish a reading habit through community training. She also promoted the therapeutic use of picture book in helping children to relieve their emotions and improving parent-child relationships through reading.
