Singtao Daily (2018-10-16) By :Catherine Chan 走路看似是自然不過的事,但對於初學走路的幼兒是一件大事。他們每步都是勇氣,每步充滿挑戰。同樣,apple、boy、cat這些看似容易的字,對未識讀字的幼兒來說,每次的閱讀嘗試和經驗都是勇氣和挑戰。 每名幼兒的語感都不一樣,有些孩子對文字較敏感,很快便掌握得到,有朋友的孩子才兩歲,已可掌握基本的字母拼音。相反,有些孩子語感不強,無論我們如何重複教導,他們就是讀不出、串不到。 我們該怎樣幫助孩子閱讀呢?每年「書伴我行」都會邀請擁有近五十年經驗的閱讀專家Julie Fowlkes從美國來港,早前我參加了她的其中一課──Transitional Readers: Ways to Guide, Support and Build Beginning Readers。我希望了解「由聽到讀」是怎樣「發生」,以及作為父母,該怎樣協助孩子閱讀? Julie說我們首先要明白「由唔識讀到識讀」的過程,對孩子來說是充滿挑戰,「就算我們常聽到孩子的腦袋在幼兒時是超級的、發展迅速的,但『識字讀書』對他們來說,其實一點也不簡單,它在腦袋裏要經過非常複雜的過程,所以我們要給孩子多點耐性和體諒。」 Julie說我們要做孩子的教練,老師與教練最大的區別是,老師與學生比例可以是一對十、一對一百甚至一千;教練與學生的比例則小得多。換句話說,我們要觀察孩子,訂立一個適合他性格和程度的閱讀訓練,最重要的是把閱讀變得有趣好玩,令孩子對閱讀充滿自信,愛上閱讀。 Julie提供四大循序漸進的貼士(從幼兒至小學階段): 一、Sight Words:原理有點像學中文,死記常用字,如am、was、has、for、like、you等。早在上世紀四十年代,兩位學者整理了最常用的一百字和二百字等「清單」。 二、Vocabulary:學習生字的方法有很多種,建議先讓孩子多聽,產生印象後才再逐一向他們介紹聽熟聽慣的字。意味毋須急於要孩子認字和串字,學習生字以「先聽後學」為原則。 三、Fluency:給孩子簡單易讀、適合程度的書,讓他們不斷重讀,目的是先增強他們閱讀自信。謹記原則是以Horizontal而非Vertical的方式做訓練,即是在同一個程度上不斷增加數量,向「橫」發展,達到一定的量後才向「直」上。 四、Comprehension:通過提問,幫助孩子理解,如鼓勵他們猜劇情、鼓勵孩子用自己的語言說出故事、問他們一些思考問題等。孩子通過這些活動訓練理解能力,爸媽藉此了解他們的能力。(本文錄自《親子王》周刊) Only available in Traditional Chinese
